Smaila - Good to know before you buy!

To avoid potential damage to frozen components, it’s best not to operate your awning in frosty conditions. However, if it must be used, keep a close watch on the system so you can stop it immediately should any parts be frozen. This can help prevent unnecessary strain or breakage. Helpful tip: In freezing weather, switch off your awning’s weather sensors to stop it from opening or closing automatically while you're away from home.
While awnings are built to withstand higher wind speeds (please refer to the product specifications for exact limits), it is still advisable to retract the awning before strong winds arise and keep it closed during such conditions. Doing so helps minimise the risk of damage caused by sudden gusts. For added peace of mind, consider fitting a wind sensor — it will automatically handle this task on your behalf.
The primary purpose of an awning is to protect from sunlight and heat. It is advisable to retract your sun protection when it rains, as damp fabric can lead to increased wrinkling, water staining, or mildew. In some cases, a honeycomb pattern may also appear. If your awning does become wet, the best course of action is to extend it and allow it to dry fully once the weather improves.
If you do need to retract damp fabric, rainwater may enter the awning’s casing. Water can also make its way into a closed awning, particularly if it is installed on a side of the building exposed to the elements. However, this does not harm the fabric. The water is collected in the awning’s built-in drainage system and directed away safely. In some cases, water may also drain out when the awning is extended again after rainfall.
Awning fabrics naturally respond to external conditions. Depending on whether it is warm or cold, dry or damp, the fabric may expand or contract slightly. The size of the system also influences this behaviour. These environmental effects can result in gentle ripples or folds in the fabric. However, such creases are completely normal and have no impact on the awning’s performance or durability.
Fabrics are customised to fit the size of your awning system. As fabric types vary in width, selecting the optional Valance Plus may result in transverse seams, depending on the fabric chosen and the desired valance length. To ensure the best outcome, we recommend getting in touch with us in advance for guidance on the most suitable fabric for your needs.
Certain irregularities are unavoidable due to environmental factors and the manufacturing process. These may include creases, bulging or wrinkling caused by varying winding diameters on the roller tube. You may also notice rippling, slight stretching around seams, or a honeycomb effect. Rest assured, these are purely visual and do not affect the performance or durability of the high-quality fabric. As such, they are not considered defects and do not constitute grounds for complaint.
What one person considers loud and distracting may go completely unnoticed by someone else, and the same applies to the sounds your awning might make. As temperatures change, the materials naturally expand and contract, which may result in occasional creaking. You may also hear some noise during the awning's extension and retraction, with the volume varying depending on the building’s structure. These sounds are entirely normal and have no impact on the awning’s performance.
It’s a good idea to check your awning from time to time to make sure everything appears as it should and is securely in place. If you notice anything unusual, contact us to arrange maintenance. We also recommend cleaning the awning at least once a year, or twice yearly if it is subject to frequent use. If you are going to be away from home for an extended period, be sure to retract the awning and switch the automatic system to “OFF”. This will prevent the awning from operating unsupervised while you are not at home.
Once your awning is installed, you might decide you’d like even greater comfort. Fortunately, Weinor’s modular system offers a variety of additional features that can be easily retrofitted. From automatic weather sensors and heating systems to integrated lighting, new fabric choices, or vertical sun protection for pergola awnings, all components are designed to work seamlessly together. While some technical limitations may apply to certain combinations, these are rare exceptions, and we are continually working to overcome them.
Even when your awning is out of view, weather sensors allow your radio-controlled system to operate automatically. It will extend in sunny conditions and retract when it becomes rainy or windy. This helps maintain a comfortable climate on the patio as well as inside your home. With the appropriate sensor, you can also reduce the risk of damage caused by wind or heavy rain.
For an awning to operate correctly, all components must work together in alignment. Even slight unevenness in the wall surface can affect how smoothly the awning moves. Weinor awnings are designed to adapt to the condition of the installation surface and can compensate for any irregularities when required. Any joints that appear as a result do not impair functionality, in fact, they help ensure the awning performs as it should.
