Weinor Plaza Viva Pergola Awning

Plaza Viva - Good to know before you buy!

It is best not to operate the pergola awning in frosty conditions, as frozen components could be damaged. However, if it must be used, make sure to keep an eye on the system so you can stop it immediately if anything freezes. This helps avoid potential damage. A helpful tip: switch off the weather sensors during frosty weather to prevent the awning from opening or closing while you are not at home.
Pergola awnings are built to withstand higher wind speeds (please refer to the product specifications for exact figures). However, it is still recommended to retract the awning before strong winds occur and keep it closed. This lowers the risk of damage from powerful gusts. If you add a wind sensor to your system, it can handle this automatically.
The Plaza Viva pergola awning can stay extended during light rain without issues. When fitted with optional telescopic posts, it provides effective rain protection from a pitch of 4 degrees, and from 14 degrees with fixed posts. However, it is not designed for heavy rainfall or sudden summer downpours. The pergola awning should be retracted when heavy rain is expected to prevent any damage.
If you retract the Plaza Viva while the fabric is still damp, rainwater may enter the inside of the awning. Water can also get into a closed awning, especially if it is installed on a weather-facing side of the building. However, this does not affect the fabric. The water is collected in the awning’s drainage system and directed away safely. In some cases, drainage may also occur when the awning is extended again after rainfall.
Pergola awning fabrics respond to external conditions. Depending on whether it is dry or damp, warm or cold outside, the fabric may expand or shrink slightly. The size of the system also influences this effect. These changes can cause waves or folds to appear in the fabric. However, such folds are completely normal and do not harm the awning in any way.
Fabrics are matched to the size of the system. Since fabric widths can vary, using the optional Valance Plus may result in transverse seams. This depends entirely on the fabric type you select and the length of the valance. We recommend contacting us in advance for advice on the most suitable fabric for your needs.
Certain irregularities cannot be avoided due to environmental factors and the manufacturing process. These may include creasing, bulging, or wrinkling caused by differences in how the fabric winds onto the roller tube. You may also notice rippling, slight overstretching near seams, or a honeycomb effect. Rest assured, these are purely visual and do not affect the performance of the high-quality fabric. Such small imperfections are normal and not considered faults or valid reasons for complaint.
What one person perceives as loud and unpleasant may go unnoticed by someone else. The same applies to the creaking noises your pergola awning might produce. As the temperature changes, the materials expand or contract slightly — a completely natural and unavoidable reaction. Some noise may also be heard when extending or retracting the awning, and this can vary depending on the building’s structure. These creaking and movement sounds have no impact on the performance of your pergola awning.
It is a good idea to inspect your pergola awning from time to time. Check that everything looks as it should and that all parts are securely in place. If you notice anything unusual, please contact us for maintenance. We recommend cleaning the structure at least once a year, or twice yearly if it is used frequently. A helpful tip: if you are away from home for an extended period, retract the pergola awning and switch off the automatic system. This prevents it from operating without supervision.
Once your pergola awning is installed, you might find that you want to enhance its comfort and functionality even further. Weinor’s modular system offers a variety of optional extras that can be added later with minimal effort. These include features such as automatic weather sensors, integrated lighting, heating systems, updated fabric choices, or vertical sun protection. All components are designed to work together seamlessly. While some technical restrictions may apply, these are uncommon and we are continuously working to minimise them.
Even when your pergola awning is out of sight, weather sensors can manage it automatically. When the sun is shining, the awning extends, and when it becomes rainy or windy, it retracts again. This helps maintain a comfortable climate both on the patio and inside your home. Using the right sensor can also help reduce the risk of water or storm damage to your awning.
For a pergola awning to function properly, all components must operate in sync. Even small irregularities in the house wall can affect how smoothly the awning moves. Weinor pergola awnings are designed to adapt to the installation surface and compensate when needed. Any resulting joints are not a fault — in fact, they help maintain proper functionality.
