To avoid the risk of damaging frozen components, it is best not to operate the awning in frosty conditions. If it must be used, it is important to keep a close eye on the system. This allows you to stop it immediately if anything appears frozen and helps to prevent damage. Helpful tip: In cold weather, switch off the weather sensors to stop the system from extending or retracting automatically while you are away from home.
Awnings are designed to withstand relatively high wind speeds, although you should check the product specifications for exact details. Even so, it is recommended to retract the awning before strong winds occur and to keep it closed during such weather. This helps to reduce the risk of damage from powerful gusts. Adding a wind sensor to your system can take care of this automatically.
The main purpose of the awning is to protect from sunlight and heat. When it begins to rain, it is best to retract the sun protection. Damp fabric may develop additional wrinkling, water stains or mildew. In some cases, honeycomb patterns can also appear. If the fabric becomes wet, it should be extended and allowed to dry as soon as the weather improves.
If you need to retract damp fabric, rainwater may enter the interior of the awning. Water can also find its way into a closed unit, especially when it is installed on a wall that is exposed to the weather. This does not damage the fabric, as the water is collected in the integrated drainage system and directed safely away. In some cases, you may also notice water being released the next time the system is extended after rain.
Fabrics naturally respond to outdoor conditions. Depending on whether it is dry or damp, warm or cold, the fabric may expand or shrink slightly. The overall size of the system can also influence this behaviour. These factors may lead to gentle waves or folds appearing in the fabric. Such folds are entirely normal and do not cause any damage to the awning.
Fabrics are made to fit the dimensions of the awning. Since not all fabric types come in the same width, choosing the optional Valance Plus may result in transverse seams. This depends entirely on the fabric selected and the length of valance required. It is a good idea to speak to us in advance for advice on the most suitable fabric for your needs.
Some irregularities are unavoidable due to environmental factors and the manufacturing process. These may include creasing, bulging or wrinkling caused by differences in how the fabric winds around the roller tube. Rippling, slight stretching near the seams or honeycomb effects may also appear. However, there is no cause for concern. The fabric used is high-performance, and such minor imperfections do not affect its functionality. These are not considered defects and do not qualify as reasons for rejection or complaint.
What one person may find loud and distracting can be barely noticeable to someone else. This also applies to the creaking sounds your product may produce. As temperatures change, the materials expand or contract slightly, which is a natural and unavoidable process. You may also hear noise when the awning is extended or retracted, and the volume can vary depending on the structure of the building. These creaking and operational sounds are completely normal and do not affect how the awning performs.
It is a good idea to inspect your awning from time to time to check that everything appears in good condition and is securely in place. If you notice anything unusual, contact us to arrange maintenance. Cleaning the system at least once a year is recommended, or twice a year if it is used frequently. Helpful tip: If you are going to be away from home for an extended period, retract the awning and switch the automatic system to “OFF”. This prevents it from opening or closing without supervision while you are not there.
Once your awning has been installed, you may find that you would like to enhance your comfort even further. Weinor’s modular system offers a range of additional products that can be easily retrofitted. These include automatic weather sensors, heating systems, integrated lighting, new fabric options and vertical sun protection for pergola models. All elements are designed to work together seamlessly. There are a few technical limitations depending on the configuration, but these are rare exceptions, and we are continuously working to expand compatibility.
Even when your awning is out of view, weather sensors allow the radio-controlled system to operate automatically. It extends when the sun is shining and retracts when it starts to rain or becomes windy. This helps maintain a more comfortable atmosphere both on the patio and inside your home. Using the right sensor can also reduce the risk of water or storm damage to the product.
For an awning to perform correctly, all of its components must work together in harmony. Even minor unevenness on the building wall can affect how smoothly it operates. Weinor awnings are designed to respond to the condition of the installation surface and can compensate for these irregularities when necessary. Any joints that appear as a result are not a fault. In fact, they help maintain the awning’s proper function.
